Specials focused on the Montessori Philosophy
In addition to the Montessori curriculum, Green Valley School takes pride in offering the following Special Programs:
DRAMA
Weekly movement and drama classes are offered to all of the students. Our drama teacher brings a passion for and a joy of performing and self expression. Students improvise, play instruments, practice scenes and short plays, and create costumes and props. The students share their accomplishments during Arts Night at the end of the school year.
ART
Art is available in the classroom at all times, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, theater, performance, puppetry, carpentry, animation, and various crafts. We also visit museums, attend performances and invite specialists in their field to share their passions.
CULINARY ARTS
Every child deserves independence, confidence, and healthy eating habits. At GVS, each child enjoys hands-on learning with a fully equipped kitchen (complete with oven, cooktop, KitchenAid mixer, sink and more). By selecting recipes and ingredients, to prepping their work stations and cooking as groups, students engage their senses of smell, touch, and taste. Our classes inspire even the pickiest of eaters to explore new foods.
MUSIC
All Green Valley School students have music at least once a week (from the Pre-K program through Junior High). Students who graduate from GVS will experience singing, movement, drums, xylophones, percussion instruments, and recorders. During their time in Upper Elementary, they are also able to opt into our string instrument or piano programs. Students experience the love and joy of music from different cultures as a way to connect with the community, as well as learn how to work and listen to a group.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Latin classes are offered weekly to all students grade 4 and above, and the Junior High class is continuing their study of Italian after their odyssey trip to Italy. Other languages may be offered as well, depending on student interest.
TECHNOLOGY
Coding… Research… Internet Safety… The GVS Technology program empowers students to use computers for learning and communication purposes. Students learn the basics of build their own websites, and use computers to aid academic projects, from researching information to creating a polished presentation safely and efficiently.
